Authored by the Clinical Team at Empowered Treatment.

Our Empowered Team

"Clinical Team at Empowered Treatment" isn't a pen name for freelancers. It's the working clinicians of our adult eating disorder outpatient program: licensed therapists (LPC, LCSW) who specialize in eating disorders and trauma, registered dietitians who sit at supported meals every week, and the psychiatric and medical providers who keep recovery safe. Content topics come directly from clinical work: the questions clients ask in session, the fears families voice on the phone, and the gaps we see in what's available online.

Meet the disciplines behind the byline on our team page.

The process

How a page gets made

  1. Clinical drafting. A member of the clinical team drafts the piece, grounded in clinical experience and current literature.
  2. Evidence check. Claims that need support are tied to peer-reviewed research and authoritative clinical sources: the American Psychiatric Association practice guideline for eating disorders, the National Eating Disorders Association, the National Institute of Mental Health, and published studies, with full citations listed on foundational guides.
  3. Clinical review. Every educational page is reviewed by Steffani Roller, LPC, IEDS for accuracy, safety, and clinical judgment before publication.
  4. Dated and maintained. Guides carry their review date and are re-reviewed as evidence and clinical practice evolve.
Our standards

Rules we write by

  • Weight-inclusive, shame-free language. No weights, calories, or BMI figures, ever. Content should be safe for someone in recovery to read.
  • Honest about uncertainty. When research is mixed or evolving, we say so instead of flattening it into false confidence.
  • No fear marketing. We explain medical seriousness because it's true and actionable, never to frighten someone into a phone call.
  • Education first. These pages exist to help people understand eating disorders, whether or not they ever contact us. Crisis resources (911, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) appear wherever relevant.
  • Corrections welcome. If you believe something on this site is inaccurate or out of date, call us at (512) 882-4599 or send a message. We review every correction request.
