Nutritional Stabilization and Counseling

Collaborate with our registered dietitian to work towards food freedom and body neutrality in a compassionate and affirming environment.

During these weekly sessions, you two will work together to unravel disordered eating patterns, rebuild trust with your body, challenge “food rules”, develop meal support strategies, and create a path forward that feels safe and sustainable. Because our dietitian specializes in eating disorders and/or disordered eating, their support will align perfectly with your other groups and experiences in the EmpowerED program. Each client will attend additional food groups throughout the week, as well as participate in Therapeutic Meals to dive deeper into their relationship with food and their body.

  • Individualized Care

Every individual and their relationship with food and path to healing is unique. There is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach to freedom, and our dietitian prioritizes collaboration with the client to ensure their ongoing recovery feels safe and sustainable.

  • Therapeutic Integration

Our team is aligned in our approach to healing all parts of a person. Eating disorders result from a complicated interweave of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors, and our dietitian will work hand-in-hand with the team to forge the best path forward for each individual.

  • Flexible Meal Plans

Some client’s thrive with more structure, and others don’t. Our dietitian and team meet each individual where they are, and utilize our experience to help create a meal framework that supports recovery without recreating a diet mentality.

  • Somatic Awareness and Mindfulness

Utilizing breath work, body scans, and nervous system awareness, our dietitian will teach you skills to reduce food anxiety and create safety in the body. This will help you stay present rather than dissociating during meals or triggering moments.

  • Therapeutic Meals

During each of the three outpatient sessions per week, our clients will participate in a group meal to practice the skills they’ve learned in a safe and supportive environment. Our dietitian will provide additional support during these meals, as well as the rest of our team. Our goal is to build confidence and a community around eating and mealtimes.

  • Trauma Informed

Our dietitian as well as our team understand and honor the role trauma takes in forming an eating disorder, as well as recognize your eating disorder as an active trauma. We will all work with you to help eliminate self-blame and start your healing process at your pace and in a safe environment.

People who are affected by eating disorders commonly experience obsessive thoughts related to food, body shape, and body size. Self-worth often becomes fused with weight, yet the development and maintenance of these disorders involves so much more than food and weight. Eating disorders are not a choice, they result from a complicated interweave of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. The negative impact of eating disorders includes various severe medical complications and impairment of psychological and social functioning. They can disrupt a person's entire sense of self and prevent the ability to be present and engaged in their day to day lives and in relationships.

We combine nutritional support with individual and group therapy to heal each person from the ground up.
