Frequently Asked Questions
What do we treat?
At Empowered, we treat the physical, mental, and emotional symptoms of both Typical and Atypical Anorexia, Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia, and OSFED (Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder), as well as the underlying traumas and attachment wounds that so often contribute to the development of these eating disorders. Empowered provides trauma-forward, complexity-ready, weight-inclusive care for adults.
What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured, comprehensive therapy without requiring you to live full-time at a facility. It bridges the gap between inpatient residential treatment and traditional weekly therapy. Think of IOP as the best of both worlds: it offers intensive, focused care and robust daily support, but with the vital flexibility to return home each evening. This allows you to deeply engage in your mental health recovery while still staying connected to your daily responsibilities like work, school, or family, and allows you to apply what you learn in real-time.
What does the program consist of?
The Empowered IOP program offers a comprehensive, trauma-integrated approach to eating disorder recovery. In addition to healing behaviors around food, we also address the underlying emotional, cognitive, relational, and nervous system patterns that have served to establish and maintain these behaviors.
Our structured pyschoeducation curriculum helps our clients:
Understand the function of their eating disorder
Build emotional awareness and regulation
Reconnect safely with their bodies
Examine thought patterns and core beliefs
Strengthen relationships and boundaries
This important work helps to reconstruct our client’s identity and self-worth as they step out from the shadow of their eating disorder.
In addition to our psychoeducation groups, we also integrate weekly individual therapy, weekly nutrition counseling, weekly food and nutrition focused groups led by a registered dietitian, daily process groups, supported group meals, and twice-monthly yoga to help support the mind-body connection.
Together, these elements help our clients build skills, autonomy, and resilience to decrease reliance on their ED. At Empowered, recovery is not just about symptom reduction, but rather deeply healing our client’s relationship with themselves, their body, and food.
Our goal is to help our clients develop an empowered, sustainable, and values-driven life far beyond their eating disorder.
How long is your program?
Our program is designed to be 12 weeks long from start to finish. Those 12 weeks consist of three 3-hour sessions each week.
Do we take insurance?
We work with most major insurances and our admissions team will walk you through the entire process.
What is the admissions process?
At Empowered we understand how difficult it can be to reach out and ask for help. Our goal is to always make this process as simple and supportive as possible. When you or a loved one calls they’ll be speaking with a dedicated admissions representative who will complete a brief assessment to be sure we are the most appropriate program to fit your needs. This assessment also helps us create a treatment plan tailored specifically for you or your loved one. After the assessment, your admissions representative will verify your health insurance and/or work with you or your loved one to create a payment plan to fit your needs. Once those steps are completed we will schedule your admission date to begin intensive outpatient programming. Our goal is for you to feel comfortable with your choice from the very first phone call.
What is the experience like for loved ones?
We know family involvement can be one of the most important factors when a loved one seeks treatment and begins their journey to recovery. This is why we provide weekly family update and support calls to ensure that loved ones stay involved and empowered.
Why is Empowered different?
Empowered was created to fill the gap in a desperately needed space - one often overlooked due to stigma and fear. We were founded by three women who saw the need for more personalized, compassionate care, that takes place in a small intimate setting where we strive to make every client feel seen and supported. Our goal is to always provide care that feels human, individualized, and above all, rooted in connection.
